IP Boom Continues at Paul Hastings with Life Sciences and Technology Partner Addition
July 18, 2016
New York, NY — Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Chad Peterman, a patent and antitrust litigation lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property practice, based in New York. He joins from Patterson Belknap, where he was a partner. His arrival continues a stream of new additions to the firm, such as Hiro Hagiwara and Hassen Sayeed, M.D., who joined the firm’s IP practice earlier in July.
“Our IP practice is a market-leading practice, which we’ve continued to strengthen on both the Life Sciences and Technology sides,” said Seth Zachary, chair of Paul Hastings. “Chad is another example of the top-tier talent we’re attracting and our confidence in the future of our IP and Life Sciences practices,” he added.
“Paul Hastings is the ideal platform for building my practice to its full potential,” said Mr. Peterman. “I have worked as co-counsel with several of the firm’s partners and have always been attracted to the firm’s culture and impressed with its track-record of wins and precedent-setting victories,” he added.
Mr. Peterman is a skilled IP and antitrust trial attorney with an extensive background in the Life Sciences and Technology industries. He has been involved in all phases of litigation from pre-suit investigation/strategy through appeal. Mr. Peterman has represented major software, telecommunications, semiconductor, and medical equipment companies in patent litigations. He has also represented major pharmaceutical companies in complex ANDA litigations, antitrust litigations, arbitrations, and mediations. In addition to litigation, Mr. Peterman also represents companies in intellectual property transactional matters, including rendering patent opinions and negotiating a variety of intellectual property agreements.
Mr. Peterman’s arrival not only follows Hiro Hagiwara and Hassen Sayeed, M.D., but also a ten-member technology patent trial team from McDermott, Will & Emery that included partners Blair Jacobs, Stuart Bartow, and Christina Ondrick, as well as several other IP litigation partners across the U.S., including Naveen Modi and Joseph Palys in Washington, D.C., and Andrew Grossman in Los Angeles.
Paul Hastings is regularly acknowledged for its track-record of winning major cases and setting precedents in patent law. The firm was recognized by The Financial Times in its North America Innovative Lawyers 2015 report for securing the first-ever win for a branded drug company at the Inter Partes Review (IPR). Partner Bruce Wexler was recently named Transatlantic Lawyer of the Year in the IP category by the American Lawyer for significant wins in matters involving U.S. and European pharmaceutical companies. Partner Naveen Modi—the number one filer at the PTAB in 2015— was named Outstanding IP Litigator of the Year in the PTAB by Managing IP', and Mr. Modi and partner Gerald Flattmann were recognized as IP MVPs by Law360 for their numerous IPR wins on behalf of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
At Paul Hastings, our purpose is clear—to help our clients and people navigate new paths to growth. With a strong presence throughout Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., Paul Hastings is recognized as one of the world’s most innovative global law firms.
