Former Senior Counsel of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Joins Paul Hastings in Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C.-- Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Gerald Sachs has joined the Global Banking & Payments Systems practices in Washington, D.C. as of counsel. Mr. Sachs recently completed service with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Office (CFPB) of Enforcement, as Senior Counsel for Policy and Strategy. He is a highly regarded lawyer with significant experience in regulatory enforcement, auto finance, and traditional and emerging payment systems.
“Gerald will be a huge asset to our Global Banking and Payments practice,” said V. Gerard Comizio, chair of the Global Banking practice. “He has had first-hand experience assisting the Bureau’s mortgage servicing, consumer compliance and payments systems rules, implementation teams, and working on a variety of high level projects,” he added.
“Paul Hastings has a leading Payment Systems Practice that has been advising a range of financial institutions and payment companies on innovative payment solutions,” said Mr. Sachs. “I hope clients will find my experience with the CFPB will be valuable to them and look forward to helping the firm continue to build on its strength in payments and banking,” he added.
Prior to working at the CFPB, Mr. Sachs served as Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. Before joining the United States Attorney’s Office, he served as an attorney for the Federal Trade Commission's Southeast Region Office where he prosecuted consumer protection cases against companies and individuals who committed unfair and deceptive acts and practices and other violations of consumer law.
Mr. Sachs arrival follows the addition of several partners to Paul Hastings D.C. office including Intellectual Property partners Joseph Palys and Naveen Modi and White Collar Defense partners Michael Levy, Michael Spafford and Amy Carpenter-Holmes.
