Wheel of Fortune: New FCC Chair Wheeler To Take A Whirl at Privacy; How Will Industry Fare?

Now that Tom Wheeler has been sworn in as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the communications industry is waiting for further signs about the direction of Chairman Wheeler’s regulatory agenda. And, given recent events, industry observers agree that privacy and information security issues will be topics of significant discussion among the FCC, industry groups, and the public. In our latest Stay Current, we discuss the FCC’s most recent privacy ruling (pertaining to information generated and stored on mobile devices by carrier-installed software). In addition, we also look ahead at privacy issues that are likely to be sources of FCC enforcement activity or policymaking in 2014.
