Overview

Jason Mikus is an associate in the Litigation practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, including patent, trade secret, copyright, and unfair competition disputes in federal district court and post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Mr. Mikus worked as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. In this role, he reviewed patent applications involving technologies such as electronic control systems, bladed rotor systems, gas turbine engines, and hydraulic work machines.

Mr. Mikus received his law degree from The George Washington University Law School, where he graduated With Honors. 

Mr. Mikus is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

While in law school, Mr. Mikus served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Mary Ellen Coster Williams of the United States Court of Federal Claims and as a research assistant to Dean John M. Whealan. Mr. Mikus earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Representations

  • Representing Google in IPRs dealing with nine patents asserted by Virentem Ventures, LLC. The patents relate to various multimedia technologies, and Virentem has argued that various important Google technologies infringe the patents, such as YouTube.
  • Representing Zimmer Biomet in a commercial trade secrets dispute related to knee replacement technology.
  • Defending Samsung in a complex, multi-faceted intellectual property dispute against NuCurrent, involving claims for patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation.
  • Defending Samsung in a patent infringement dispute in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, concerning wireless charging technology. The plaintiff, Garrity Power Services, had asserted nearly all claims of one patent against Samsung’s Galaxy, Note, Fold, and Flip series products’ wireless charging technology.
  • Defending Samsung in a patent infringement dispute in the Eastern District of Texas against CardWare Inc.
  • Represented EVRYTHNG Limited in a complex offensive trade secrets dispute adverse Avery Dennison concerning active digital identity technologies.
  • Conducted various freedom to operate analyses for Medtronic related to mitral and aortic heart valve prostheses.
