Overview
Brianne Burnett Powers is a Senior Director within the Privacy and Cybersecurity Solutions Group, the consulting branch of the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice, based in the Washington, D.C. office, and also currently serves as the Firm’s Chief Privacy Officer.
She works with clients on the practical implementation and maintenance of the privacy and security compliance requirements of state, U.S. and international privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CPRA”), Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, the Colorado Privacy Act, and other upcoming comprehensive state privacy laws, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”), and the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) as well as those requirements resulting from and in response to Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) and Department of Justice (“DOJ”) rulings.
Her educational and professional experience has primarily focused on privacy program management and healthcare regulatory issues, as well as intellectual property, data sharing, and communications issues. Ms. Powers previously worked for nearly eight years at Booz Allen Hamilton where her focus was the program management of privacy-related contracts within the federal and commercial markets, including those related to privacy-program governance and training; policy, procedure, and best practice document development and review; breach response and incident management; privacy impact assessment (“PIA”) guidance development and review; and other ad hoc privacy-related tasks.
Ms. Powers received a B.A. in Communication Studies and a Minor in Linguistics from the University of Michigan in 2007 and a J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law in 2010 with concentrations in Corporate Law and Intellectual Property & Communications Law. She also holds a Certified Information Privacy Professional certification in U.S. Government from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
