Overview

Brianne Burnett Powers is a senior director within the Privacy and Cybersecurity Solutions Group, the consulting branch of the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice, based in the Washington, D.C. office, and the firm’s chief privacy officer.

Brianne advises clients in all market sectors on the practical implementation, maintenance and enhancement of privacy compliance programs based upon the requirements of state, U.S. and international privacy laws and regulations.

Brianne previously worked at Booz Allen Hamilton where her focus was on the program management of privacy-related contracts within the federal and commercial markets, including those related to privacy-program governance and training; policy, procedure and best practice document development and review; breach response and incident management; privacy impact assessment (PIA) guidance development and review; and other ad hoc privacy-related tasks.

Brianne received a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in Linguistics from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law with concentrations in Corporate Law and Intellectual Property & Communications Law. She also holds a Certified Information Privacy Professional certification in U.S. Government from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

  • Conducted dozens of privacy compliance assessments based upon requirements of data protection laws, including the comprehensive U.S. state privacy laws and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Clients in their review of website compliance requirements and drafting of required documentation (privacy policies, notices, banners) resulting from cookie and online tracking technology-based litigation.
  • Biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, and related nonprofit companies on complex issues involving the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), clinical trial agreements and relationships.
  • Drafted and reviewed data and information protection agreements, and supported build of related third-party vendor management programs.
  • Provided guidance on global privacy program build and enhancement in response to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Justice (DOJ) rulings.
