Paul Hastings IP Litigators Named The American Lawyer’s “Litigator of the Week”
November 22, 2024
Paul Hastings LLP was named The American Lawyer’s “Litigator of the Week” for representing Viking Therapeutics, Inc. before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) in a sprawling proceeding involving hundreds of misappropriated trade secrets relating to a cutting-edge treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease that began in December 2022.
After two incredibly successful trials, including an expedited 100-day proceeding that the team later was able to move past, ITC Chief Administrative Law Judge Clark Cheney found that Viking’s trade secrets were protectable and misappropriated and that the misappropriation injured Viking’s domestic industry for the drug candidate and recommended a seven-year exclusion order barring the competitor product from the U.S. market.
The Paul Hastings team included IP Global Co-Chair Eric Dittmann, leader of the ITC practice Kecia Reynolds, trade secrets partner Jeff Pade, and life sciences IP partner Isaac Ashkenazi in a three-pronged approach that featured a deep bench of life sciences, ITC, and trade secrets litigation experience.
Other team members included Global Co-Chair of IP Bruce Wexler, partners Chris McGrath and Shaun Wu, Of Counsel Mark Smith, and associates Kyotaro Ozawa, Rich Rothman, Brooke Wilner, Brandon Howell, Zach Hadd, Josh Lopez, Cheron Mims, Summer Stevens, Richala Jackson, Zoey Xie, and Madeleine Moss.
