Paul Hastings Enhances White Collar, Complex Litigation, and Arbitration Practices with Premier London Duo
March 06, 2024
LONDON (March 06, 2024) – In a move that significantly enhances its leading investigations, white collar, complex litigation, and arbitration practices in the UK and globally, Paul Hastings LLP announced today that Stuart Alford KC and Oliver Browne have joined the firm as partners in London.
Alford’s practice focuses on bribery, corruption, money-laundering, fraud, dishonesty, and other financial disputes, while Browne represents individuals, companies, and corporations in complex commercial arbitration and litigation at all levels of the English courts. They both join from Latham & Watkins LLP, where Browne was co-chair of the firm’s London litigation and trial department.
“The addition of Stuart and Oliver further enhances our ability to take on the most important and complex corporate investigations and commercial litigation matters in the UK and globally,” said firm Chair Frank Lopez. “Their experience, market reputation, and client relationships, along with their financial crime and complex commercial litigation expertise, also will position us for additional growth in this important and rapidly evolving area.”
In addition to criminal work, Alford’s practice includes advising on global investigations, legal privilege, directors’ duties, and shareholder disputes. His extensive international criminal law experience includes chairing the War Crimes Committee of the International Bar Association, serving as a prosecutor for the United Nations, legal adviser to the judges in Saddam Hussein’s trial, and head of Banking Fraud at the UK’s Serious Fraud Office. He was appointed Queen’s (now King’s) Counsel in 2014.
Ranked in Chambers and listed among Who’s Who Legal’s Future Leaders – Partners, Browne is a solicitor advocate who advises domestic and foreign corporations and high-net-worth individuals in complex cross-border arbitration and litigation disputes globally. His arbitration experience extends to proceedings in the world’s leading arbitral institutions as well as ad hoc matters.
“We are excited to join Paul Hastings and continue building its global service to clients, with a practice capable of serving the full range of litigation, arbitration, investigations, and enforcement needs,” said Alford. “We see great synergies between our existing practices and the firm’s growth plans, which will benefit our clients and those of the firm across the global market.”
The addition of Alford and Browne reflects the firm’s continued growth across core litigation practices, including complex litigation, financial services investigation and regulation, intellectual property litigation, white collar defense, investigations, and arbitration. Notable recent hires globally include international arbitration partner Garreth Wong, and IP litigation partner Jason Raeburn in London, leading white collar and securities litigator Brad Bondi in Washington, D.C., elite complex commercial litigator Paul R. Genender in Houston, and premier commercial and securities litigator Jennifer Conn in New York.
