Paul Hastings Adds Chambers-Ranked National Security and Global Trade Partner in Washington, D.C.
September 17, 2024
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a move that further enhances its leading national security, CFIUS, and global trade controls practices, Paul Hastings LLP today announced that Keith Schomig has joined the firm as a partner in Washington, D.C.
Joining from White & Case, Schomig focuses in the areas of national security reviews before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and non-U.S. equivalent agencies (FDI), as well as foreign ownership, control, or influence (FOCI) mitigation matters before the U.S. Departments of Defense and other national security agencies. His 16 years of experience includes advising on significant private equity investments and large-scale mergers and acquisitions across a broad range of industries. Schomig also counsels clients on a multitude of FOCI mitigation and compliance matters, including some of the most complex and sensitive national security agreements approved by the federal government.
“Keith brings decades of experience advising clients on complex cross-border transactions and litigations involving bet-the-company national security matters, CFIUS, and FOCI matters,” said Global Managing Partner Sherrese Smith. “In an environment of heightened regulatory challenges and increased government scrutiny on transactions and investigations, his ability to guide companies through business-critical issues involving national security issues will be a differentiator for our multinational and domestic clients.”
Chambers-ranked Schomig was in the group awarded CFIUS Team of the Year at the 2021 IFLR Americas Awards. Prior to entering private practice, he was a flight officer in the U.S. Navy, flying combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
With clients that have included Fortune 500 companies, leading private equity firms, and major sovereign wealth funds, Schomig’s experience includes strategic planning, risk assessment, due diligence, filing, mitigation negotiation, and implementation around CFIUS, FDI, and FOCI processes. His arrival will broaden and deepen the national security and compliance support that the firm provides to top-tier clients such as SAP, Mitsubishi Corporation, and G42, among many others.
“Paul Hastings’ litigation platform is attracting some of the world’s eminent lawyers, and I am thrilled to be joining the firm,” said Schomig. “I’m eager to leverage my skills and experience to advance the interests of the firm’s clients while also growing the firm’s global trade offering.”
Paul Hastings has added more than 20 partners to its litigation group since the start of 2023, including multiple who focus on defense, national security, and related issues. They include cybersecurity, privacy, and securities litigation partner Michelle Reed in Dallas; former federal prosecutor and white collar and investigations partner Renato Mariotti in Chicago; and investigations and enforcement partner Brad Bondi and international arbitration partner Jonathan Hamilton, both in Washington, D.C.
