March 26, 2014
Washington DC – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that the firm was recognized by Global Competition Review, a leading antitrust and competition news publication, for its work in the US Airways/American Airlines merger, which was announced as winner of the GCR Matter of the Year Award, at a ceremony in Washington DC.
Paul Hastings was counsel to American Airlines Inc. in the antitrust review of its merger with US Airways Inc.; a deal that was challenged by the Department of Justice and the Attorney Generals’ of multiple states. MJ Moltenbrey, Scott M. Flicker, Jeremy P. Evans and Timothy S. Longman led the Paul Hastings team that guided American through the litigation and eventual settlement with the Department of Justice that allowed the merger to be completed.
According to the GCR team, the US Airways/American Airlines merger was shortlisted on account of the shrewd, pre-emptive lawyering required to outmaneuver lawsuits from a host of antitrust enforcers, which was recognized by voters as exemplary strategic practice in competition law.
Recipients of the award are nominated and voted for by GCR’s readership of competition professionals worldwide. This year’s awards saw the largest turnout of voters to date, with over 3,000 of votes cast by subscribers on the biggest competition matters of the last 12 months.
Paul Hastings has been honored for the third year in a row at the GCR awards; and been counsel on the publication’s ‘Matter of the Year’ for the second time in the past three years.
