Chicago – Paul Hastings, a leading global law firm, announced today that cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection lawyer Aaron Charfoos has joined the firm as a partner, based in Chicago. His arrival adds further depth to the firm’s Privacy and Cybersecurity practice and continues Paul Hastings’ strong lateral growth in key practices across the firm’s global platform.
“Cybersecurity is a top priority for our clients. Adding impressive talent like Aaron has helped us build a leading Privacy and Cybersecurity practice to address our clients’ mission-critical needs,” said Seth Zachary, chairman of Paul Hastings.
“Paul Hastings stands out for its innovative work in cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection, as well as the complementary areas of technology and intellectual property,” said Charfoos. “I’ve followed the firm’s impressive growth story for some time now—and am excited to join a firm where I can collaborate with colleagues across the firm to further develop my practice.”
Charfoos is an accomplished cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection trial lawyer. He litigated his first privacy case in 2010, building on a decade of experience in patent and technology cases. Since then he has litigated a variety of data breach and trade secret theft cases. He has also guided clients through numerous data breaches and defended clients in regulatory investigations brought by various U.S. and international regulatory bodies. He is particularly skilled in guiding clients through cybersecurity vulnerability disclosures, as well as helping companies to develop global privacy and data security programs and ensure their compliance with U.S., EU, and Asian regulations.
With the arrival of Charfoos, Paul Hastings adds further momentum to its strong lateral growth across its global platform. Over the past year, the firm has welcomed more than two dozen partners, including Entertainment and Media Litigation partner Steven Marenberg in Century City; Investigations and White Collar Defense partners Tom Best, Matt Herrington and Jonathan Drimmer in Washington, D.C. and Shaun Wu in Hong Kong; and Antitrust and Competition partner Camille Paulhac and Investigations and White Collar Defense managing director Nicola Bonucci in Paris.
Paul Hastings’ Privacy and Cybersecurity practice is recognized as a go-to team for guiding clients through investigations by federal authorities of potential privacy-related problems, advising companies on establishing privacy and information security compliance programs, and helping clients respond to suspected security breaches and personal data disclosures. Paul Hastings is ranked as a leading firm for Data Protection and Privacy by Legal 500 and recognized for Data Protection and Information Law and Technology by Chambers UK.
