Paul Hastings Secures Patent Victory for Samsung
November 09, 2009
New York, NY (November 6, 2009) Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that it has secured a victory of summary judgment on behalf of Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. and Samsung SDI America, Inc. against Honeywell International Inc. and Honeywell Intellectual Properties in the District of Delaware.
In November of 2004, Honeywell filed suit against dozens of consumer electronics companies alleging infringement of a U.S. patent for Liquid Crystal Display technologies. Paul Hastings represented Samsung SDI, which makes liquid crystal displays for incorporation into cell phones and PDAs. Judge Joseph J. Farnan granted Samsung SDI's summary judgment motion, which argued that the patent was invalid because the invention on was on sale more than one year before the patent was filed.
We are ecstatic that the Court recognized the invalidity of the patent, eliminating the need for a trial on the issue," said Stephen Korniczky, lead partner on the case. Jong Han Kim, Head of Paul Hastings Korea Practice who also advised on the case, commented: "We are very proud of this significant victory for our important client, Samsung SDI."
The Paul Hastings team was led by Stephen Korniczky, Jong Han Kim, and Glenn Dassoff and included associates Elizabeth Brann, Martin Bader, and Ryan Hawkins.
