Paul Hastings Secures Patent Victory for AU Optronics
May 04, 2010
New York, NY (May 4, 2010) Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that it has obtained a complete defense victory in a patent infringement case on behalf of AU Optronics, the world's third-largest flat-panel maker by revenue.
LG Display (LGD) asserted that AU Optronics infringed four patents related to liquid crystal display technology and sought damages of more than $600 million. After a bench trial, the United States District Court for the District of Delaware held that LGD had not established infringement of any of the patents.
"This outcome is particularly gratifying," said Vincent Yip, a partner in the Intellectual Property practice of Paul Hastings and chief strategist of the non-infringement arguments asserted by AU Optronics. "Two of the four patents asserted by LGD had been the subject of previous litigation against another liquid crystal display manufacturer and had resulted in two separate jury verdicts of infringement, each in excess of $50 million."
Partners Terry Garnett and Larry Gotts served as co-lead trial counsel. The trial team included partner Vincent Yip, and associates Peter Wied, Jay Chiu, Aslan Baghdadi, and Erin Klisch.
