Paul Hastings Adds Prominent International Arbitration Partner in New York
February 01, 2016
NEW YORK – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Camilo Cardozo, an international arbitration lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner. He joins Paul Hastings from DLA Piper, where he was co-chair of the U.S. International Arbitration practice group. The move follows complementary investments Paul Hastings has made in its Latin America, Project Finance, Energy, and Litigation practices.
“International arbitration is increasingly the forum of choice for large cross-border disputes. We are focused on continuing to build this capability for our clients around the world,” said Barry Sher, global chair of the Litigation practice at Paul Hastings. “We are very excited Camilo is joining us given his experience in this important area,” he added.
“Camilo is an incredibly talented lawyer and his presence in New York, along with his Latin American background, will be an ideal complement to our existing International Arbitration practice and will allow him to work closely with our New York-based Latin America and Project Finance teams,” said a former Co-Chair of the International Arbitration group at Paul Hastings. “Our clients increasingly turn to international arbitration as a preferred means of resolving larger, more complex, multi-party international disputes. Camilo’s impressive track record, sophistication and native Spanish-language abilities will be invaluable to our Latin American, Project Finance, Energy, and M&A clients,” he added.
Mr. Cardozo’s practice focuses on complex international disputes. He has handled international arbitrations under numerous international arbitration rules, including AAA/ICDR, ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, and in a variety of jurisdictions, including forums in the U.S., the U.K., Europe, and Latin America. Mr. Cardozo, a fluent Spanish speaker, has substantial experience handling disputes under investment treaties and disputes related to large infrastructure projects.
Mr. Cardozo also represents clients before U.S. courts in litigation related to arbitration issues, including the enforcement of awards, applications to obtain evidence in aid of arbitration, and seeking preliminary/injunctive relief.
Paul Hastings continues to add top talent in key areas where client demand is growing. The firm recently announced that Roberta Bassegio, a New York and Brazil qualified energy and infrastructure partner, joined Paul Hastings proposed new office in São Paulo, Brazil, which is subject to regulatory approval. In March 2015, the firm added Robert Kartheiser as chair of the Project Finance practice and Cathleen McLaughlin, as a partner in the Latin America and Project Finance practices.
At Paul Hastings, our purpose is clear — to help our clients and people navigate new paths to growth. With a strong presence throughout Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., Paul Hastings is recognized as one of the world’s most innovative global law firms.
