Los Angeles Philharmonic Unveils Frank Gehry Design for Youth Orchestra Center
August 15, 2018
Los Angeles – In the midst of revitalization in the City of Inglewood, California, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the City of Inglewood announced a plan to build the first permanent facility for Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA). The design for the Judith and Thomas L. Beckmen YOLA Center at Inglewood, to be located adjacent to Inglewood City Hall, was unveiled by the L.A. Philharmonic on August 15, 2018. The center, designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, represents a significant partnership between a celebrated cultural institution and a community on the rise.
Paul Hastings advised The Los Angeles Philharmonic in the drafting and negotiation of a Disposition and Development Agreement for the acquisition and construction of the facility, located at 101 S. La Brea Ave. The firm continues to advise the LA Philharmonic on ongoing parking and land use agreements for the facility.
The Paul Hastings team is led by Real Estate partner Philip Feder and also included Sam Alavi and Eliana Vivier on real estate matters; and Jeffrey Haber and Michael Nytzen who continue to work with the LA Philharmonic on securing zoning and land use entitlements from the City.
Groundbreaking for the 25,000 square foot Beckman YOLA Center is to occur in early 2019, and once completed will include a choir room, an ensemble room, practice studio, and 260-seat concert hall. YOLA began in 2007 with a handful of students, and today provides free instruments, music training and academic support to about 1,200 children in central, southern and eastern Los Angeles.
