June 18, 2013
New York, NY - Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that Douglas Flaum has joined the firm as a partner with the Litigation practice in New York.
“We are very pleased to welcome Doug to the firm. Doug’s arrival enhances our strong litigation practice, particularly with respect to large, complex commercial and financial litigation,” said William Sullivan, global chair of the Litigation practice. “His significant real estate litigation, antitrust and white collar expertise will also complement our strength in these practices areas,” he added.
“Doug is a top litigator with an impressive track record advising leading global financial institutions and corporations on their most important litigation matters,” said Barry Sher, chair of the Securities Litigation practice. “His addition confirms and accelerates our growth as a premier practice,” he added.
Mr. Flaum has litigated cases on behalf of corporations, directors and special board committees in a diverse range of areas related to complex financial and business arrangements, including securities cases under the 1933 and 1934 Acts, business tort and contract matters, antitrust disputes, issues of corporate governance and alleged breaches of fiduciary duties and contests for corporate control, and a variety of criminal and enforcement proceedings. He also regularly advises corporations and their officers and directors on these issues in a non-litigation context. Chambers, a leading legal directory describes Mr. Flaum as handling, “general commercial and securities litigation with equal aplomb.”
Mr. Flaum joins from Fried Frank LLP, where he was head of the Securities and Shareholder Litigation practice. Mr. Flaum’s arrival follows that of Paul Schwartz, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, and a director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology, who joined the firm as a special advisor to the firm’s Privacy and Data Security practice. Two Litigation partners also recently joined the firm in March, Sam Cooper who joined the practice in Houston and Nathaniel Edmonds, who joined in Washington, DC.
