Financial Times Ranks Paul Hastings #1 for Innovation in Business of Law – New Models and Recognizes Firm on List of Most Innovative Law Firms in North America

December 09, 2015

Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that the firm won the Financial Times’ Innovation in the Business of Law – New Models Award for “taking data analytics to a new level,” and was also recognized by the FT in its North America Innovative Lawyers 2015 report as one of the top 10 most innovative law firms. The report highlighted the firm’s innovation for its Intellectual Property, M&A, Latin America, and Pro Bono work, leading to the firm’s overall ranking as seventh on the FT’s list of the most innovative firms.

In addition to the first place ranking in the Business of Law – New Models category, the firm was commended for:

  • Social Responsibility – Pro Bono:  for “help[ing] achieve sweeping reforms on the use of force against Los Angeles County Jail inmates.” This is the second year in a row that Paul Hastings has placed second in this category.

  • Legal Expertise – Expanding Clients’ Business: for representing WorldVu Satellites Limited in “Creat[ing] a corporate governance structure for the world’s largest satellite constellation that aligned the interests of nine global companies.”

  • Legal Expertise – Protecting Clients’ Business: “By applying a high-stakes litigation approach, lawyers secured a first-ever win for a branded drug company at the Inter Partes Review, a new forum for challenging patent validity,” scoring a complete victory for Supernus Pharmaceuticals and Galderma Laboratories.

The FT report also highlights the firm’s work for GE Capital in the financing of a landmark real estate loan that created a model never before tried in Mexico. Paul Hastings is one of only three firms in the top 10 to score across the three innovation categories in the report: Business of Law, Legal Expertise, and Social Responsibility.

In being named one of the top 10 most innovative firms, Paul Hastings is only one of two firms that has made the FT’s list of top firms every year that the report has been published. Additionally, Paul Hastings is one of only four firms currently ranked in the top 10 in the North America, Europe, and Asia reports.

These recognitions for innovation follow the firm’s top 10 rankings in the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Asia and Europe reports, as well as recognition in _The Recorder’_s 2015 Innovator Awards in the “Incubators” category, which identified “the organizations and institutions that, by design or happenstance, have launched or implemented a series of new ideas.”

At Paul Hastings, our purpose is clear — to help our clients and people navigate new paths to growth. With a strong presence throughout Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., Paul Hastings is recognized as one of the world’s most innovative global law firms.
