Paul Hastings Recognized in Variety’s Dealmakers Impact Report
December 11, 2020
Century City – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that four of its attorneys have been recognized by Variety’s Dealmakers Impact Report 2020, which profiles the people behind the most important entertainment industry deals of the past 12 months – executives, lawyers, financiers, entrepreneurs, and others from all sectors of the business.
Partners Craig Emanuel, Susan Z. Williams, and Mickey Mayerson were profiled in the Dealmakers list, while associate Scott Oranburg was featured in the ‘Up Next’ list of up-and-coming younger dealmakers on the verge of a career breakthrough who are 35 or younger.
The profile of Craig Emanuel, the chair of the firm’s global Entertainment and Media practice, notes his representation of Robert Rodriguez, Tony Gilroy, Marisa Tomei, and Ryan Murphy, as well as Clive Davis for the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”
The profile of Suzan Z. Williams, co-chair of the Entertainment and Media Finance group, includes her work on Vine Alternative Investments’ $220 million stake in Paris-based film studio EuropaCorp, and repping First Republic Bank in the Weinstein Co. bankruptcy.
The profile of Mickey Mayerson, co-chair of the Entertainment and Media Finance group, notes his role helping SpottedRisk design the first-of-its kind COVID insurance policy for independent film and TV projects, and repping MPCA and Tribune Entertainment.
The profile of Scott Oranburg mentions his representation of the Nelk Boys in the expansion of their YouTube channel, and of Sarah Skibitzke on her HBO Max series “Wahl Street”.
The firm’s Entertainment and Media practice is routinely recognized as among the most influential in Hollywood by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety and is ranked with the most notable in the market by Chambers and Partners. In October this year, Entertainment and Media Partners Craig Emanuel, Erik Hyman and Stephen Saltzman, and Litigation partner Steven Marenberg, were honored on the 2020 Sports & Entertainment Law Trailblazer list by The National Law Journal.
Emanuel, Hyman, Saltzman, Marenberg, Mayerson, and Williams were among eight Paul Hastings attorneys recognized last summer in Variety’s Legal Impact Report for handling the most consequential and high-profile entertainment industry matters. Variety’s Legal Impact Report also recognized Entertainment and Media transactional partner David Hernand and litigation partner Bo Pearl.
In 2019 Paul Hastings launched a European-based Entertainment and Media team that advises production, distribution and media companies and financial institutions, funds and high net-worth investors in Europe and Asia as well, as U.S.-based clients, on cross-border entertainment and media transactions in these regions.
The firm’s global interdisciplinary team is at the forefront of the market, with savvy, deeply experienced advisors who work closely with clients to develop innovative solutions for financing, corporate, capital, and distribution and cross border transaction matters. Paul Hastings also provides a full breadth of talent representation in film, television and digital media.
