The Supreme People's Court Takes Steps to Bolster Arbitration in Mainland China

On September 8, 2006 the Supreme People’s Court finally promulgated a long-awaited Interpretation of Various Issues Regarding the Application of Mainland China’s Arbitration Law and it came into force on the same date. The final version of the Interpretation is not as supportive of arbitration as earlier drafts but it does provide additional guidance on issues surrounding validity of arbitration agreements and enforcement/setting aside of arbitral awards.
