Superfund Reform/Brownfields Legislation Enacted

The “Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act”was overwhelmingly passed by Congress on December 20, 2001 and signed into law by President Bush on January 11, 2002. The new law makes significant changes to the Superfund law (by, for example, providing a liability exemption for “bona fide” new purchasers even if they know of contamination); and establishes a new federal grant and loan program for evaluation and cleanup of contaminated industrial sites, commonly called Brownfields.
