New Brownfields Exemption Will Help Developers of Contaminated Property

On January 9, the California Department of Industrial Relations issued a landmark decision holding that a statutory exemption to California prevailing wage requirements can be applied to brownfields redevelopment projects. The decision means that a developer who structures its project correctly can receive public funds to help pay for the cleanup of contaminated property without causing the rest of its brownfields project to be subject to prevailing wages.
