Department of State's September Visa Bulletin

The September Visa Bulletin issued by the Department of State (DOS) announced certain immigrant visa availability for September. In light of the unavailability of immigrant visa numbers during August, this development was not generally expected. However, DOS has indicated that the numbers are available due to the return of unused July numbers by consular posts abroad and due to the limited number of pending cases eligible for final processing at consular posts abroad.

The cut-off date for employment-based first preference (EB-1) cases for all countries is January 1, 2007. The cut-off date employment-based second preference (EB-2) cases is January 1, 2007 for all countries except for China, which has a cut-off of January 1, 2006, and India, which has a cut-off of April 1, 2004. With respect to employment-based third preference (EB-3) cases, the general cut-off is August 1, 2002, but no immigrant visas are available for persons from China, India and Mexico.
