House Of Representatives Approves China PNTR Bill
May 26, 2000
Hamilton Loeb and Scott Flicker
On May 24, the House of Representatives approved, by a vote of 237-197, legislation that would extend permanent normal trade relations to China. The bill passed by a wider margin than expected due to the support of Members of Congress from both parties who had remained “undecided” throughout the intense lobbying effort surrounding this measure.
