In late September, Governor Gray Davis signed into law a series of amendments to the California Fair Employment and Housing Act and the wage and hour and other provisions of the California Labor Code. Although signed with little fanfare and publicity, the amendments significantly expand certain employee rights under California laws. Most of these new provisions take effect on January 1, 2001; some took effect immediately. California employers should take note.
