On June 7, 2001, President Bush signed into law the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, which contains significant provisions relating to estate and gift tax laws. Set forth below is a summary of the main changes in estate and gift tax laws that will be implemented by the Act, as well as a discussion on how individuals should plan their estates in light of these changes.
