Over the past several months, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has stepped up its interest in the private equity industry, which historically had not been the focus of the SEC. As pronounced by Robert Kaplan, co-chief of the SEC's Asset Management Unit (AMU), There will be more private equity cases coming from the division of enforcement in coming years than there have been previously.
