On Wednesday, March 18th, the US Senate passed the COVID-19 emergency Bill that had been passed by House of Representatives, by unanimous consent, two days earlier. The President is expected to sign the Bill. As described in the client alert below, this legislation expands the Family Medical Leave Act to allow for child care-related leave due to the certain effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, creates paid sick leave for certain absences related to COVID-19, and provides for $1 billion in emergency administration grants in 2020 to eligible states to help process and pay unemployment insurance benefits.
