Paul Hastings LLP received two nominations at the Global Investigations Review (GIR) Awards 2024. Kwame Manley, Global Co-Chair of the Litigation Department, is nominated for “Investigations Professional of the Year,” while the practice is nominated for “Most Impressive Investigations Practice of the Year.”
Investigations Professional of the Year – Kwame Manley
In one of this year’s most significant foreign bribery cases, Kwame Manley guided German multinational SAP to a $220 million resolution with US and South Africa authorities that included a significant 40% cooperation discount, despite the company’s prior matters. DOJ recently called SAP’s cooperation as “setting the tone for others in the market place.”
Most Impressive Investigations Practice of the Year
Paul Hastings secured a favorable outcome for SAP in a sprawling US foreign bribery investigation that concluded in 2024. The firm guided the German multinational to a $220 million resolution with the DOJ and SEC, along with the South Africa authorities. SAP entered into a three-year deferred prosecution agreement with the DOJ, allowing the company to avoid a guilty plea to criminal charges. DOJ did not impose a criminal monitor (despite SAP’s past conduct), and SAP received a 40% fine discount. DOJ recently called SAP’s cooperation as “setting the tone for others in the market place.”
