Paul Hastings LLP was named The American Lawyer’s “Litigator of the Week” for representing the Ad Hoc Board of Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA), Venezuela’s national oil company, after the Second Circuit vacated a judgment against PDVSA and remanded it for further proceedings following an earlier ruling from the New York Court of Appeals that the validity of nearly $2 billion in bonds issued by the PDVSA should be governed by Venezuelan law rather than New York law.

In light of the New York Court of Appeals’ holding that Venezuelan, not New York, law governs the validity of the bonds, U.S. Circuit Judges Pierre N. Leval, Raymond J. Loheir, and Beth Robinson vacated the decision of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York that previously declared the bonds valid and enforceable.
