Paul Hastings Investigations and White Collar Defense senior associate Nicole Lueddeke has been named among Law360’s 2024 “Rising Stars” for White Collar law. Ms. Lueddeke is noted for her work representing a multibillion-dollar medical device company in a U.S. Department of Justice investigation involving alleged Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations.

Alongside the firm’s preeminent Life Sciences and Healthcare group, Ms. Lueddeke represented a company in a nonpublic action before the DOJ in its voluntary disclosure of potential FCPA violations under the DOJ FCPA Corporate Enforcement Policy. The investigation spanned from 2018 to 2023. A routine inquiry into potentially improper payments to its distributor in China had expanded into potentially improper payments across various markets throughout the Asia-Pacific and Latin America — most specifically, Korea, Indonesia, India and Brazil. Nicole helped manage the 5-year-long investigation in each of these regions; assisted in voluntary disclosures to DOJ's FCPA Unit; prepared and provided critical briefings, including Filip factors (Principles of Federal Prosecution of Business Organizations) and disgorgement presentations and helped negotiate the form of the resolution and potential disgorgement amount.
