The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it had settled an enforcement action against Kraken, a large crypto trading platform, in which it alleged that Kraken’s staking-as-a-service program constituted an unregistered public offering of securities in violation of the Securities Act of 1933. This represents the first time the SEC has formally asserted jurisdiction over digital asset Proof of Stake staking services in an enforcement proceeding.
