Teleconference

Highly Important Supreme Court and Legislative Developments

Friday, June 27 04:00 AM GMT to 04:00 AM GMT

Paul Hastings is proud to host: Highly Important Supreme Court and Legislative Developments

June 26, 2008 at 12pm PDT/ 2pm CDT/ 3pm EDT

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued four very important employment decisions. Please join us for this complimentary one and a half-hour teleconference where our panel of Paul Hastings' experts will discuss these cases, their implications and pending federal employment legislation that appears to have substantial chances of being enacted in the near future (such as legislation radically enhancing unions' ability to organize bargaining units).

The four cases we will discuss are:

  • Kentucky Retirement Systems, upholding a state disability retirement program from age discrimination claims despite its disparate impact on older workers.

  • Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., clarifying the abuse of discretion standard applied in ERISA claim denial cases.

  • Meacham, applying the reasonable-factor-other-than-age defense in a disparate impact layoff case.

  • Chamber of Commerce, invalidating a state labor neutrality law on NLRA preemption grounds.

There will be time for Q&As following the teleconference.
