AFME EU and UK Approaches to Greenwashing Enforcement in the Financial Market: A Comparison

Global co-chair of the ESG & Sustainable Finance Practice Ruth Knox and associates Jessica Howe and Amanda Kingsley and the Association for Financial Markets in Europe have collaborated on a new briefing comparing EU and U.K. regulatory approaches to greenwashing enforcement in the financial services sector.

The briefing contains a mapping exercise and analysis of the approach taken by the European Supervisory Authorities and the U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority to address risks or concerns relating to such greenwashing. The mapping exercise analyzes both jurisdictions’ greenwashing definitions and regulatory focus, as well as recently published guidance to highlight key similarities and differences.

It aims to support banks and financial institutions in navigating these complex and evolving requirements to ensure compliance while upholding sustainability commitments.
