Overview

Yangho Charles Shin is an associate in the Litigation practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the Seoul office. He is a trial and appellate litigator who helps his clients resolve complex international disputes before state and federal courts, as well as international arbitrations under the rules of the ICC, the AAA, and UNCITRAL.  Charles is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Virginia School of law, and clerked for Justice Lee A. Solomon of the Supreme Court of New Jersey before entering into private practice.

Representations

  • Represented a South Korean company before the U.S. Department of Justice involving an alleged scheme to defraud the U.S. Department of Defense in violation of 18 U.S.C. §1343 and obtained a favorable plea agreement.*
  • Represented KT Engcore against ASI Computer Technologies in California state court and obtained a $32 million complete jury verdict after a five-week trial. The judgment was affirmed on appeal and the client recovered the judgment in full.*
  • Represented a South Korean optical manufacturer in a Section 337 Investigation before the U.S. International Trade Commission involving optical filters used in cellphones and tablets, and successfully terminated the investigation by entering into a favorable licensing agreement.*
  • Represented global engineering and construction companies before the ICC International Court of Arbitration, defending claims asserted by a service provider in the Middle East in connection with a $6 billion oil refinery construction project.*
  • Defended South Korean electronics and automobile manufacturers in putative class action lawsuits filed in U.S. state and federal courts concerning alleged defects in smartphones, tablets, washing machines, refrigerators, and automobiles.*
  • Defended one of the largest public utilities in the U.S. in CERCLA cost recovery and contribution actions concerning remediation of the Passaic River in New Jersey.*
