Nick Griepsma

Associate, Litigation Department

Overview

Nick Griepsma is an associate in the Litigation practice of Paul Hastings and is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.  His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, mass torts, and regulatory adjudications and enforcement. Nick has represented a variety of clients in high-stakes matters in both state and federal court at both the trial and appellate levels on a variety of issues, including consumer protection, public nuisance, fraud, and constitutional claims. Nick has first- and second-chaired numerous depositions, drafted successful motions, and argued before multiple courts.

Nick served as a law clerk to the Honorable Leslie H. Southwick on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (2017-2018) in Jackson, Mississippi. Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Nick was an associate at another international law firm in Washington, D.C.

 

Prior to law school, Nick served on active duty in the U.S. Army in support of the Global War on Terrorism, ultimately attaining the rank of Captain.  From 2011-2012, he deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  There, Nick led a platoon of infantrymen and cavalry scouts on hundreds of combat missions and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Representations

  • Represented a Fortune 10 pharmaceutical distributor in the nationwide opioid litigation, including cases brought by State Attorneys General, local municipalities, and private entities such as hospitals. Served on trial and appellate teams in four major state actions in addition to actions before a federal multidistrict litigation court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
  • Represented a subsidiary of a Fortune 10 company in a qui tam action, resulting in the grant of summary judgment and the Government’s dismissal of the claim, upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Represented a Fortune 10 online marketplace in an administrative adjudication before the Consumer Product Safety Commission on a legal question of first impression under the Consumer Product Safety Act. Served as lead drafter on multiple dispositive motion and appellate briefs.
