Paul Hastings Adds Leading Technology and Privacy Partner in London
October 29, 2014
London, UK – Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that prominent Technology and Privacy lawyer Ashley Winton is joining the firm as a partner in the corporate practice in London on 3 November. Mr. Winton is joining from White & Case.
Mr. Winton advises on technology, intellectual property, outsourcing and antitrust matters with particular emphasis on European regulatory issues such as electronic money, encryption and export control, data protection and privacy, technology transfer and e-commerce.
His clients include global financial institutions, global IT, technology and telecommunications companies, computer manufacturers, social media companies as well as many other multinational corporations.
“Ashley’s comprehensive knowledge of the technology sector will make him a valuable asset to the firm, and will enable us to provide strategic and innovative advice to our leading global technology clients,” said Ronan O’Sullivan, chair of the London office. “Our London office continues to attract top-level talent, and Ashley is a welcome addition to the team.”
Mr. Winton is recognized as a leading practitioner by independent legal directories, with Chambers UK stating: “The outstanding quality of the work he does is a result of the thorough understanding he has of how IT companies work, and how the particular technologies work”. Clients describe him as “inimitable and quite brilliant” and a “strategic mastermind”, with a “superb knowledge of data protection law”.
This hire follows the addition to the London office of capital markets partner James Cole and real estate partner David Ryland in 2013 and the announcement earlier this month of the hire of leading high yield partner Peter Schwartz. Mr. Winton will be working closely with payment systems and financial services partner Ben Regnard-Weinrabe, who also joined the firm this year.
Mr. Winton’s arrival forms an integral part of the firm’s commitment to further expand its technology and privacy related practice in London, and to complement its market leading Asian and US technology practices. The office’s corporate practice represents a range of technology clients on transactional, tax and payments matters, and has concluded three technology IPOs, including two SEC registered deals, for European technology businesses in the past year.
