New U.K. Legislation on Age Discrimination Proposed for 2006

On July 14, 2005, the U.K. Department of Trade and Industry published draft Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 to implement the final stage of Council Directive 2000/78/EC, commonly known as the European Employment Directive. The consultation period for the draft regulations will end on October 17, 2005, and subject to U.K. Parliamentary approval, the regulations will go into effect as legislation on October 1, 2006.
