Clean Air and Fresh Law: UK Employment Law Developments

April 30, 2007

Chris Bracebridge and Anna Hermelin

  • For health policy reasons, smoking in indoor public spaces will be banned in England from 1 July 2007, affecting most workplaces.

  • Following a Government review, the generally unloved statutory dispute resolution procedures look set to be scrapped eventually.

  • The 2007 UK Budget contains reforms that businesses need to be aware of, and new laws affecting employers have been implemented during April 2007.

  • Employers should start preparing for the smoking ban, and update relevant policies and procedures in light of the ban and the April legislative changes.
