Overview

William Mahoney helps business, energy, and construction clients navigate the legal issues they face in a variety of disputes in federal and state courts. The primary focus of his practice is complex commercial litigation. He also has experience in a variety of other substantive areas, including restructuring litigation, insurance recovery, internal investigations, and constitutional law.

Mr. Mahoney is a trial attorney with first-chair experience. In his second year as a lawyer, he was the lead attorney in a pro bono civil rights lawsuit in federal court, where, among other roles, he argued pretrial motions, selected the jury, gave the opening statement, and examined the plaintiff, defendant, and an expert.

Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Mr. Mahoney served as a law clerk for the Hon. Judge Drew B. Tipton of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Education

Mr. Mahoney received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. During this time, he clerked in the Washington, D.C. office of Senator Ted Cruz. Mr. Mahoney was also a judicial intern for the Hon. Chief Judge Timothy Tymkovich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Spanish from the University of Mississippi, summa cum laude, in 2017. Mr. Mahoney is admitted to practice law in Texas.
